Our client is a distinguished European pharmaceutical company renowned for developing, producing, and distributing high-quality medicinal products. With a diverse portfolio that includes treatments for gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and central nervous system diseases, they manufacture over one billion units annually. Operating in more than thirty countries, the company is now poised to expand its presence into Mexico to establish a significant market footprint.

Project Description:

The Interim General Manager / Country Manager will lead the company’s entry into the Mexican market over a 9-12 month period. Key responsibilities include:
  • Establishing a Legal Entity: Forming a legal entity in compliance with Mexican regulations, including registration with the Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC) and obtaining necessary permits from the Tax Administration Service (SAT). 
  • Developing Sales and Distribution Strategies: Creating and implementing a comprehensive sales and distribution strategy tailored to the Mexican pharmaceutical market.
  • Building a Sales Team: Recruiting and developing a robust sales force, encompassing sales representatives, key account managers, and regional sales directors.
  • Ensuring Regulatory Compliance: Navigating the highly regulated pharmaceutical sector by adhering to Mexican regulations, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined in NOM-059-SSA1-2015, and securing necessary approvals from the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risk (COFEPRIS). 
  • Identifying and Engaging Clients: Recognizing potential clients and local sales channels, leading negotiations, and finalizing contracts to establish a strong market presence.
  • Managing Stakeholder Relationships: Cultivating and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, healthcare professionals, and distribution partners.
  • Reporting and Strategy Adjustment: Providing regular updates to the European headquarters and adjusting strategies based on market feedback and performance metrics.

Interim Manager Required Skills:

  • Experience: Proven experience as a General Manager or Country Manager in the pharmaceutical industry, with a focus on market entry and business development within Mexico.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of Mexican pharmaceutical regulations, including COFEPRIS guidelines and NOM-059-SSA1-2015 GMP standards.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing sales teams, with exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Strategic Vision: Proficiency in developing and executing effective sales and distribution strategies aimed at rapid market penetration.
  • Cultural Competence: Fluency in Spanish and a deep understanding of Mexican business culture, facilitating effective negotiation and relationship-building with local stakeholders.
  • Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, life sciences, or a related field; an MBA or equivalent advanced degree is preferred.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to overcoming challenges in a dynamic environment.
