Our client is a global Tier 1 automotive supplier, privately owned by a leading international private equity firm. The organisation is currently navigating a leadership transition at the manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic, which employs approximately 500 people and specialises in complex, regulated production processes. This interim engagement supports a critical continuity and stabilisation phase within the plant’s Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) function, following the departure of the previous EHS leader and delays in permanent recruitment.
Project Description:
This interim assignment provides immediate leadership to a high-impact EHS function within a complex automotive manufacturing environment. The interim Head of EHS will stabilise operations, ensure compliance, and introduce a fresh, external perspective to legacy systems and processes.
- Interim Head of EHS, reporting to the Plant Director with a functional line to the Regional EHS Director
- Mandate focused on stabilisation, compliance assurance, and operational improvement during a leadership gap
- Assume full responsibility for occupational safety, fire safety, environmental compliance, and risk prevention across the plant
- Conduct a critical review of legacy EHS processes and identify opportunities for simplification, modernisation, and alignment with global standards
- Support the plant’s contribution to global EHS harmonisation and certification initiatives, including machine safety and environmental discharge compliance
- Provide leadership and relief to an overstretched EHS team, many of whom have been in place for over 15 years
- Operate cross-functionally with facilities, maintenance, and energy management teams to ensure integrated risk oversight
- Deliver measurable improvements in compliance readiness, audit preparedness, and internal stakeholder confidence within the first 3–6 months
Interim Manager Required Skills:
This role requires a seasoned interim EHS executive with a strong track record in regulated manufacturing environments.
- Former EHS Director, Plant EHS Manager, or interim HSE leader in automotive or heavy industry
- Experience in Central or Eastern European manufacturing environments, ideally within the automotive sector
- Proven ability to lead EHS functions in complex, high-risk production settings involving toxic substances
- Strong knowledge of Czech and EU environmental, health, and safety legislation
- Hands-on experience with wastewater treatment, discharge compliance, and hazardous materials such as hexavalent chromium
- Capable of conducting risk assessments, leading audits, and supporting ISO or equivalent certification processes
- Pragmatic, solutions-oriented leadership style with a calm, credible presence on the shop floor
- Politically astute and culturally sensitive, able to navigate dual reporting lines and long-standing team dynamics
- Fluency in Czech strongly preferred to ensure effective engagement with plant personnel
