1348 Crisis Interim Plant Manager USA
About Our Client:
Our client is an international, privately owned industrial manufacturing group serving technically demanding B2B markets across Europe and North America.
The business has a global footprint of approximately 1,000+ employees world-wide, with a North American manufacturing network supplying critical components into high-demand infrastructure and industrial applications.
Following a complex market change within North America, one production facility is facing a serious operational turnaround situation. The site has not yet reached the required levels of output, quality, discipline, process stability, or customer reliability. Leadership continuity has also been disrupted, creating an urgent need for experienced interim executive leadership on the ground.
The mandate is focused on stabilising the plant, restoring operational control, rebuilding shopfloor discipline, improving quality and output, and preparing the organisation for a more sustainable permanent leadership structure.
Project Description:
This is a hands-on interim Plant Manager mandate with full operational responsibility for a manufacturing site of approximately 100-150 employees, moving towards a higher-intensity shift model.
The role is business-critical. The interim leader must rapidly stabilise daily operations, rebuild leadership routines, improve performance, and restore confidence with internal stakeholders and external customers.
Responsibilities include:
- Act as Interim Plant Manager, reporting to Group Operations leadership and working closely with the North American leadership team.
- Take operational control of the site after a disrupted relocation, with a clear mandate for operational turnaround and performance improvement.
- Stabilise production output, reduce quality losses, and establish stronger control over safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people performance.
- Introduce disciplined daily management routines, clear KPIs, shopfloor visibility, structured problem-solving, and effective escalation processes.
- Assess the existing leadership team, clarify roles and accountabilities, and make practical recommendations on capability, structure, and succession.
- Strengthen workforce discipline, staffing plans, onboarding, training effectiveness, cross-training, and shift readiness.
- Work with internal taskforce members across operations, quality, finance, HR, sales, and supply chain to align priorities and execute quickly.
- Prepare the site for sustainable continuity, including a structured handover to a permanent plant leadership solution when appropriate.
This is not a maintenance assignment. It requires a calm, direct, highly credible manufacturing leader who can step into a crisis, create order quickly, and move the plant from reactive firefighting into controlled execution.
Interim Manager Required Skills:
The ideal candidate is a senior interim manufacturing leader, typically a former Plant Director, Plant Manager, Operations Director, interim COO, or operational turnaround executive.
They will bring:
- Experience leading difficult manufacturing environments where output, quality, leadership discipline, and customer trust needed to be restored quickly.
- Strong exposure to operational turnaround, operational excellence, restructuring and crisis management, or post-relocation stabilisation.
- The ability to take charge of a site where processes are weak, data exists but is not used effectively, and leadership routines need to be rebuilt.
- Confidence engaging directly with shopfloor employees, supervisors, middle managers, and senior executives without losing clarity or authority.
- Practical capability in turning production data into action, including scrap reduction, quality improvement, bottleneck removal, and output recovery.
- The judgement to evaluate leadership capability and recommend changes where performance or accountability is insufficient.
- Experience working across operations, quality, HR, finance, sales, logistics, maintenance, and supply chain.
- A composed, direct, hands-on leadership style, firm on standards but calm under pressure.
- Experience in international, cross-border transformation environments where group leadership, local teams, and customers all have high expectations.
This mandate is suited to an interim executive who understands that real turnaround work happens on the shopfloor, in daily routines, through disciplined follow-up, and through visible leadership when pressure is high.
