01/ The situation

A planned handover in the middle of a turnaround

Our client is a US manufacturer of high-volume precision parts for industrial and OEM customers across several markets. The group runs a small number of plants in the United States and Mexico. Its plant in northern Mexico is a mid-sized site of under 100 people, combining modern CNC equipment with older, high-volume machines that its teams know inside out.

After shifts in volume between the group’s US and Mexican sites, the plant is now in a turnaround: rebuilding volume, improving safety, OEE and efficiency, and preparing for further growth. The current plant manager leaves in the near future for a next career move. The group wants an experienced Interim Plant Manager on site before then, to take over in an orderly handover and keep the turnaround on track.

Confidential mandateFurther mandate details will be shared with qualified Interim Managers under a signed non-disclosure agreement. CE Interim publishes every mandate anonymously to protect the companies it works for.

02/ Your mandate

Full plant leadership, on site, through the transition

The Interim Plant Manager takes full operational leadership of the plant, based on site five days a week and reporting directly to the group CEO in the United States. The mandate starts with a planned handover from the departing plant manager, so the first weeks are about continuity, trust and taking control without losing pace.

  • Full site leadership covering safety, production, quality, maintenance, labour efficiency, OEE and delivery
  • Lead the established local management team: HR and EHS, quality, finance, maintenance and production supervision
  • Run a structured handover with the departing plant manager: people, customers, open issues and improvement actions
  • Keep the turnaround on track while building daily operating discipline on the shop floor
  • Act as the plant’s voice to customers on quality concerns, delays and delivery updates
  • Prepare the plant to absorb additional volume as the group brings work back
  • Align plant decisions with the CEO and the US organisation, while keeping accountability local
03/ Expected results

Continuity first, then measurable improvement

Success will be judged on an orderly handover and a plant that performs better at the end of the mandate than at the start.

  • Handover completed before the outgoing plant manager leaves, with no loss of operating knowledge
  • Safety performance held or improved, with clear routines on the shop floor
  • OEE, labour utilisation and machine performance visibly improved against the baseline
  • Quality and on-time delivery stable, with customers kept informed and confident
  • Local managers working to a clear daily and weekly management cadence
  • The plant ready to take on additional production volume
  • A clean handover to the permanent plant manager, with documented priorities
04/ The Interim Manager we look for

A hands-on plant leader the shop floor will trust

A senior plant leader who manages from the shop floor, not from the office.

  • Substantial plant leadership experience in precision machining or comparable high-volume, close-tolerance manufacturing
  • Hands-on knowledge of CNC turning and milling, Swiss machining or screw machines; experience with older equipment is a clear advantage
  • A proven record of improving safety, OEE, labour efficiency, quality and on-time delivery
  • Leads long-service teams through change by explaining why it is needed and showing the benefits
  • Comfortable speaking directly with customers about quality and delivery
  • Works with ease between Mexican plant culture and US corporate expectations
  • Credible with senior leadership and decisive in daily operations
  • Comfortable as an interim: credible from week one, focused on results and clear about the handover
05/ Your fit

The essentials before you apply

  • Plant manager or senior operations experience in precision machining or comparable close-tolerance manufacturing
  • Fluent Spanish and English: the workforce is almost entirely Spanish speaking, while management reports to the United States
  • Full-time presence on site in northern Mexico, five days a week
  • The legal right to work in Mexico; nationality is not a criterion
  • Available immediately
  • Contracting on a B2B basis
06/ Track record

Come prepared with evidence

Please give specific examples of assignments you have personally led, covering:

  • The plants you led: products, technology, size of the site and the team
  • A turnaround or performance recovery: starting point, actions and measurable results in safety, OEE, efficiency or delivery
  • Your experience with CNC, Swiss or screw machining, and with older equipment
  • How you took over from a predecessor and ran the handover
  • How you led long-service teams through change
  • Customer situations you handled on quality or delivery
  • How the assignment concluded and what you handed over

Priority will go to Interim Managers who have led a precision machining plant in Mexico or Latin America, ideally for a US-headquartered group.

11/ Why CE Interim

Why work with CE Interim on a plant leadership transition between the United States and Mexico

CE Interim Management Group provides cross-border executive leadership for critical business transformations. When a plant manager leaves in the middle of a turnaround, we make sure the plant does not lose pace: an experienced Interim Plant Manager takes over through a structured handover and keeps the plant performing until permanent leadership is in place. For our clients, that means a proven, mandate-matched executive ready to start within 72 hours of the completed mandate brief.

What sets us apart is leadership across borders and cultures. Our Interim Managers understand how a Mexican plant team and a US head office differ in language, pace and communication, and how to keep both aligned on one plan. The same applies between Europe and the Americas. We work for private equity firms, family owners and international groups facing operational turnaround, leadership transitions, post-merger integration and crisis.

Every engagement is personally guided by a CE Interim Partner: former CEOs, CFOs and COOs who have carried executive responsibility themselves. As a member of Valtus Alliance, the world’s largest alliance of executive interim management firms, we work alongside 25+ offices and 80+ senior partners in more than 50 countries.
