The situation

The decision is taken in Asia. The closure has to happen in the USA.

We are working on a mandate for a Private Equity backed manufacturing group with headquarters in Asia and operations on several continents. The group is performing well. One of its US plants is not: after years of effort to make it profitable, key customer volumes are moving away and the owners have decided to close it.

The decision sits with leadership many time zones away. The plant needs one accountable leader on site who carries the closure out: who speaks for the site to customers, employees, authorities and suppliers, and decides.

The start is urgent. We are looking for an experienced Interim Plant Manager who has closed a plant before, ready to start within days and present on site full time until the site is wound up.

Confidential mandateFurther mandate details will be shared with qualified Interim Managers under a signed non-disclosure agreement. CE Interim publishes every mandate anonymously to protect the companies it works for.

Your mandate

Run the plant to the last shipment, then close it

As Interim Plant Manager, you take full responsibility for the site and report to group leadership in Asia. The mandate runs in three overlapping phases.

  • Take charge. Lead every function on site, from production and quality to maintenance, supply chain and EHS. Build the closure plan with clear milestones and agree it with the group.
  • Wind down. Keep customers supplied until the agreed end of supply, transfer or dispose of equipment and tooling, run down inventory and time the employee notices correctly, including the WARN Act.
  • Wind up. Settle utilities, leases, suppliers and the authorities, leave the site safe and clean, and support the group’s lawyers in the liquidation of the legal entity.

Leading people through the end of their plant is at the heart of this mandate: honest communication, fair treatment and a calm site to the last day.
Expected results

Success is a closure with nothing left open

  • Within the first month: leadership settled on site, the closure plan agreed with the group, delivery and quality stable
  • During the mandate: customer commitments met to the last shipment, equipment and products moved as planned, costs in line with the plan
  • At completion: the site closed safely and compliantly, employees informed and treated fairly throughout, the legal entity wound up
  • No open claim left with customers, employees, authorities or suppliers
The Interim Manager we look for

A US plant leader who has switched the lights off before

You are a seasoned Plant Manager or Site Leader who now works on interim mandates, and you have led at least one plant closure in the United States from decision to final handover. You have stood on the shop floor during a shutdown and talked to hourly employees straight.

You are calm under pressure, firm with customers and suppliers, and comfortable with the numbers. You take ownership from day one and you see the mandate through to the day the site is closed.
Your fit

This mandate is for a hands-on Interim Plant Manager, on site within days

  • At least one plant closure or shutdown led end to end in the United States
  • 10+ years of manufacturing leadership with full site responsibility
  • Automotive manufacturing background, ideally with a Tier 1 supplier; strong industrial leaders are also considered
  • Working knowledge of IATF 16949, Lean and WARN Act obligations
  • Full P&L ownership and direct customer contact
  • Fluent English and the right to work in the United States
  • Available within days, ready to relocate near the site and stay full time on site for about 12 months
  • Experience in a Private Equity backed company is an advantage

Why CE Interim

Why work with CE Interim on a plant closure in the USA

CE Interim Management Group provides cross-border executive leadership for critical business transformations. Plant closures, wind-downs and liquidations are a large part of the mandates we lead today, in Europe and in the United States. For our clients, that means a proven, mandate-matched executive ready to start within 72 hours of the completed mandate brief.

When a group decides from Asia or Europe to close a US plant, the hardest part is rarely the decision. It is finding one leader on site who has done it before, while local managers are built to run the plant, not to close it. We lead these mandates between the decision centre and the operation, across time zones, and a CE Interim Partner stays involved from the first brief to the final handover. How this works in practice: Closing a US plant from Germany, the interim site leader who got it done in six months.

As a member of Valtus Alliance, we work with the reach of more than 30 partner offices and a global network of 60,000 interim executives. For Interim Managers, that means demanding, well-defined mandates with clear decision makers, a clear end point and professional B2B terms.
