Who calls us in Romania

Quatre types de cadres, un problème récurrent : un besoin de leadership qui doit être comblé plus rapidement que ne le permet un processus de recrutement permanent.

COO or plant leader

A site is missing targets or a director has left. Output cannot wait five months for a hire.

Siège social à l'étranger ou investisseur international

You own or are acquiring a Romanian operation and need leadership installed to group standard, quickly.

CFO or finance decision-maker

A departure or an acquisition has left the finance function without senior ownership.

Founder or shareholder

You are stepping back and the successor is not ready. The business runs on your relationships.

Les situations pour lesquelles les entreprises font appel à nous

Manque soudain de leadership

Your CEO or CFO exits without warning. A Romanian subsidiary or manufacturing site is left without senior leadership mid-quarter, and the permanent search will take months the business does not have. Local replacement depth at this level is thin.

Plant underperformance and operational turnaround

Output is falling, quality escalations are reaching the customer, or a site is running below group KPIs. The foreign HQ is asking for a credible recovery plan, not another progress report.

CE Interim deploys an interim COO or plant manager who takes command of the site from day one, restores production rhythm and supplier confidence, and delivers a recovery roadmap inside the first thirty days.

The plant performs. The HQ gets visibility. The problems stop compounding.

Restructuring and cost reset

Fiscal tightening, wage inflation or a revenue shortfall has forced a structural rethink. The plan is taking shape, but someone still has to run the business while it is executed and creditors still need a credible operator in front of them.

CE Interim deploys an interim CFO or CEO with direct restructuring experience who stabilises cash, manages creditors, and keeps the business operationally credible throughout.

The restructuring moves forward. The business does not stop while it does.

Intégration post-acquisition

You have closed an acquisition in Romania. The integration logic worked in the data room, but the acquired business has no leader who can meet group reporting standards and the synergy clock has already started.

CE Interim deploys an interim CFO or integration lead who installs unified reporting inside thirty days, aligns governance across entities, and owns the integration roadmap end to end.

The deal delivers its value. The integration does not become a second crisis.

Factory ramp-up and nearshoring

You are moving production capacity into Romania or ramping a new industrial site. The go-live date is fixed by a customer supply agreement that does not care about construction delays or how hard it is to hire a shift supervisor locally.

CE Interim deploys an interim plant manager and supply chain director who run the ramp-up as one coordinated programme under a single accountable lead.

Production starts on schedule. The customer is never notified of a disruption.

Transformation and ERP-led change

An ERP rollout is drifting across sites, an operating model change has stalled, or a foreign owner needs governance and reporting brought up to group standard. There are stakeholders but no single owner of delivery.

CE Interim deploys an interim transformation director or CIO who holds the programme, bridges HQ requirements and local execution, and drives the change while the permanent team runs the business.

The programme moves. The business does not stop while it does.

The Romanian market, right now

Romania has become the third-largest industrial and logistics market in Central and Eastern Europe, behind only Poland and Czechia, with foreign direct investment stock approaching €125 billion and a manufacturing base anchored by Bosch, Continental and Flex. Nearly half of all new industrial space enquiries in 2024 were manufacturing-related, a decisive shift away from the logistics-led demand of previous years. This is where a growing share of Western European production capacity is being placed.

It is also a market under strain. The 2024 public deficit reached 9.3% of GDP, the largest in the European Union, and the austerity that followed is still working through the economy. An estimated 4.6 million Romanians live and work abroad. The working-age population is shrinking, and management-level pipelines in industrial sectors are genuinely thin.

That combination is what creates interim demand. Foreign investors who acquired Romanian operations expecting a deep local leadership bench are finding it does not exist at the level they need. When a site director leaves or an acquisition closes, the replacement is not sitting in the market waiting to be found.

Meanwhile the pressure to execute keeps building. Romania joined the Schengen air and sea zones in 2024. Rheinmetall committed €535 million to a manufacturing programme in Brașov county. Raiffeisen agreed to acquire Garanti BBVA Romania for €591 million, with integration running into 2027, following UniCredit’s absorption of Alpha Bank. And Romania is sitting on up to €77 billion in available EU funding to 2030 against an absorption rate that has consistently lagged, a gap that is itself a leadership and programme-delivery problem.

Au-delà des frontières. Au-delà des cultures. Un seul partenaire responsable.

Most decisions about Romania are not made in Romania. They are made in Frankfurt, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam or London, by a board or an investment committee, and then handed to a country team to execute.

The gap between the decision and the execution is where value leaks. A German group needs a plant stabilised in Timișoara. A French investor acquires a manufacturer in Cluj. A Dutch holding company discovers its Romanian subsidiary has drifted below group governance standards and nobody flagged it upward.

Most interim firms handle one side or the other. That means a handoff, a gap in accountability, and a quality difference between the boardroom and the plant floor.

CE Interim runs both sides through one accountable partner. What makes that possible is not geography. It is the ability to hold two business cultures at once: to understand what a Western European supervisory board expects and what a Romanian operations team actually needs, and to bridge those realities without losing either. Romania makes this easier than most CEE markets, ranking eleventh worldwide for English proficiency, which means a cross-border executive can be operational from week one rather than month three.

CE Interim is the Valtus Alliance’s designated partner for Romania, the Balkans and the Baltics. If the mandate extends into Bulgaria, Serbia, Poland or beyond, it stays under the same relationship.

The corridor runs both ways: a Western European HQ reaching into Romania, or a Romanian operation reporting back to group. One partner owns the whole route.

Quand le recours à une direction intérimaire est la bonne solution, et quand ce n'est pas le cas

Interim management is the deployment of a senior executive into a defined role, with full line authority and an agreed outcome, for a fixed period. The executive is not an advisor sitting alongside the organisation. They hold the role, make the decisions and own the result. In Romanian this is management interimar, and it is different from both executive search and consulting: a search fills a permanent seat over four to six months, while a consultant produces recommendations rather than results.

The distinction matters more in Romania than in older interim markets. Because the category is still developing here, interim is sometimes confused with temporary staffing or short-term project work. It is neither. A well-scoped mandate has a defined outcome, a fixed timeline and clear success criteria agreed before day one. When those three things are in place, the executive moves at the speed the situation demands. When they are not, even the strongest executive loses weeks establishing what they are actually there to deliver.

In a market where the interim category is still forming, the engagement structure is what separates a mandate from an improvisation. A defined outcome, a fixed timeline and partner oversight are not administrative details. They are what makes the speed possible.

Mandats sélectionnés

Les coordonnées du client ne sont pas divulguées, conformément à un accord.

Chef d'exploitation de transition

A Western European manufacturer relocated a production line to Romania with a go-live date fixed by a customer supply agreement. The site was still under construction and the two workstreams were running independently with no single accountable owner.

CE Interim deployed an Interim COO to own the full programme: site readiness, commissioning, workforce recruitment, supplier onboarding, and coordination with the outgoing site.

The site reached production targets within the mandate window. The customer supply agreement was honoured without a disruption notification.

Directeur financier de transition

A Western European banking group closed the acquisition of a Romanian institution and found the acquired business had no finance leader able to meet group reporting standards. Cash visibility was weak and the integration timetable was already running.

CE Interim deployed an Interim CFO within the first week, matching an executive with direct banking integration experience and fluency in both group reporting requirements and the Romanian regulatory environment.

Group-standard reporting was operational within thirty days. The permanent CFO inherited a documented, audit-ready finance function with integration milestones on track.

Directeur d'usine de transition

A multinational industrial group lost the site director at its Romanian production facility during a period of output underperformance. The HQ was receiving inconsistent reports, quality metrics were deteriorating, and the local team lacked the authority to act.

CE Interim deployed an Interim Plant Manager with direct Romanian industrial experience, establishing single-point accountability on site from day one across production, supplier management and HQ reporting.

Output recovered to target within sixty days. Quality metrics stabilised and the permanent site director inherited a stable operation with documented processes.

Directeur général par intérim

The founder of a Romanian mid-market business stepped back before the designated successor was ready. Key customer relationships existed only through the founder personally, with no other company representative ever introduced.

CE Interim deployed an Interim Managing Director who assumed full commercial and operational leadership, managed the transition of the key accounts, and built the governance framework the successor would inherit.

All key customer relationships transferred successfully. The successor took over a business with documented processes and a stable management team. No customer was lost.

The roles we deploy for Romanian operations

Ordered by mandate frequency in Romania. Every role deployed for a defined outcome, not an open-ended seat.

Directeur financier par intérim

Financial control, integration reporting and investor visibility. Deployed when a CFO departure, an acquisition, or a foreign owner’s reporting requirements leave finance without senior ownership.

Directeur général par intérim

Full business leadership through vacancy, succession or crisis. Deployed when the top seat empties without warning and the business needs a steady decision-maker while the search runs.

Directeur national par intérim

Local leadership and HQ alignment for foreign investors. Deployed when an international owner needs Romanian operations run to group standard while a permanent country head is found or developed.

Directeur des opérations par intérim

Operational leadership and site performance. Deployed when a Romanian operation is running below group standard, or a ramp-up needs one owner with full authority in the line.

Directeur d'usine par intérim · Directeur de site

Factory leadership, production stability and site execution. Deployed when a Romanian site needs stabilising, a new site needs ramping up, or both need running at once during a transfer.

Directeur intérimaire de la chaîne d'approvisionnement

Supply chain resilience and cross-border network management. Deployed when decisions made in Western Europe have execution consequences on Romanian supply and one leader is needed across both ends.

Directrice des ressources humaines par intérim

People leadership and workforce transition. Deployed when a restructuring, integration or succession programme needs dedicated senior HR ownership alongside the operational lead.

Directeur de la transformation par intérim · Responsable PMI

Programme leadership for integration, ERP rollout and operating model change. Deployed when a complex change runs across Romanian and Western European sites and needs one accountable owner.

Industries we serve in Romania

Des cadres qui connaissent déjà bien le fonctionnement de votre secteur d'activité.

Automotive and Industrial Manufacturing

Romania’s largest source of interim demand. The western industrial corridor draws continuous mandates for plant leadership, quality and supply chain, particularly where a foreign owner needs a site brought back to group standard.

Financial Services and Banking

Consolidation is generating live integration work. Recent transactions create exactly the conditions where an interim CFO or integration lead is the fastest credible answer to a reporting and control gap.

Energy, Infrastructure and Defence

Rising fast. Large committed programmes create situations where governance, capex discipline and execution leadership are needed well before a permanent structure exists.

Logistique et chaîne d'approvisionnement

Nearshoring has made Romania the third-largest industrial and logistics market in the region. That growth exposes weak points in networks that stretch back into Western Europe.

Technology and Digital Services

Romania’s technology base supports transformation mandates. ERP rollouts, operating model change and carve-outs need execution ownership rather than advisory input.

Family-Owned Mid-Market

Not an industry but a buyer. Romania’s founder-led businesses face succession and professionalisation pressure across manufacturing, distribution and services, usually before a successor is ready.

In Romania, CE Interim deploys executives who have run industrial sites and finance functions inside CEE businesses, and who can hold a Western European reporting standard and a Romanian operational reality at the same time. CE Interim is also the Valtus Alliance’s designated partner for Romania, the Balkans and the Baltics, so a mandate that crosses a border does not change hands. That operational knowledge is what gets matched to your brief, not just the role title.

Questions we get asked about interim management in Romania

Comment fonctionne CE Interim ?

CE Interim presents partner-assessed candidates within 72 hours of the first briefing call. In genuine urgency situations an executive can be on site within days. The 72 hours covers briefing, mandate scoping, candidate assessment and profile presentation, not just a database search. Most mandates start within one to two weeks of first contact.

You speak directly with a CE Interim partner, not a coordinator or intake team. In one conversation we confirm the situation, the outcome required, the timeline and the type of executive needed. Everything discussed is confidential from the start. No form or formal brief is required beforehand.

The same CE Interim partner who took the first call stays directly involved throughout. There is no handoff to a junior account manager. The partner reviews progress, stays close to any complications, and oversees the final handover to permanent leadership or the management team.

Every mandate is scoped with a defined exit from the start. The interim executive prepares a structured handover covering decisions taken, processes documented, relationships transferred and open items. The goal is to leave the business stronger and not dependent on the interim. Clean exit is part of the mandate.

Coûts et publicités

CE Interim charges a transparent flat daily rate agreed before the mandate begins, with no placement fee, no percentage of salary and no hidden costs. There is no published Romania-specific day-rate benchmark, so the rate is confirmed in the first briefing call once the role and scope are clear.

The day rate covers everything a permanent hire does not: no recruitment cost, no notice period delay, no onboarding time, no severance risk, no employer contributions. An interim executive is productive from day one and exits cleanly when the mandate ends. The total cost comparison usually favours interim.

CE Interim charges a transparent flat daily rate agreed before the mandate begins. There are no placement fees, no percentage of salary, no success bonuses and no ongoing retainer. Commercial terms are agreed in a single conversation and confirmed in writing before anyone starts work.

Yes. Confidentiality is the starting point, not something a client has to request. CE Interim operates under mutual NDA from the first conversation. This is why no client names, company details or mandate specifics ever appear in published content. Discretion is structural, not optional.

Quand nous contacter

Yes. Sudden vacancy bridging is one of the most common mandate types in Romania, where senior replacement depth is thin and a permanent search can run five months or longer. A partner-assessed interim executive can be on site within days, holding the role with full authority while the search runs in parallel.

Yes. Operational turnaround at site level is among CE Interim’s most frequent Romanian mandates. An interim COO or plant manager takes command from day one, restores production rhythm and supplier confidence, and delivers a recovery roadmap within the first thirty days while reporting directly to the foreign owner.

Yes. Fiscal tightening and wage pressure have made restructuring one of the strongest demand triggers in the Romanian market. CE Interim deploys interim CFOs and CEOs with direct restructuring experience who stabilise cash, manage creditors, and keep the business operationally credible while the plan is confirmed and executed.

Yes. Romanian banking and industrial consolidation is generating live integration demand. CE Interim deploys interim CFOs and integration leads who install unified reporting within thirty days, align governance across acquired entities, and own the integration roadmap while permanent management continues running the business.

Yes. Cross-border relocation and greenfield ramp-up is a CE Interim specialism, and Romania is now the third-largest industrial and logistics market in Central and Eastern Europe. An interim plant manager and supply chain director run the ramp-up as one programme under a single accountable lead. The customer deadline is protected.

Yes. CE Interim deploys interim transformation directors and CIOs who own the programme end to end, from ERP rollouts across multiple sites to operating model and governance change. This matters most in foreign-owned Romanian operations where group standards must be reached without pausing the business.

Yes. Romania’s private equity market is smaller than Poland’s or the wider CEE average, but sponsor-owned businesses still need CFO replacement, reporting discipline and post-deal stabilisation. CE Interim deploys interim CFOs and COOs who work at investor tempo and prepare the business for the next stage.

Les rôles que nous déployons

An interim CFO holds full financial leadership on a temporary basis. In Romania they are most often deployed for post-acquisition integration, a sudden CFO departure, restructuring, or when a foreign owner needs credible group-standard reporting installed quickly. The interim CFO carries line authority from day one, not an advisory seat.

Yes. Interim plant manager is among the highest-demand roles in Romania given the country’s industrial base and nearshoring growth. CE Interim matches executives with direct Romanian or wider CEE site leadership experience, covering ramp-ups, turnarounds, quality escalation recovery and cross-border production transfers.

An interim COO holds operational leadership with full authority in the line. In Romania they are deployed when a site or subsidiary is running below group standard, when a ramp-up needs a single accountable owner, or when a transformation needs someone in the operation rather than above it.

Yes. Foreign owners frequently need Romanian operations run to group standard while a permanent country head is identified or developed internally. CE Interim deploys interim country managers who bridge HQ governance expectations and local operating reality, covering reporting, hiring, supplier relationships and regulatory context.

Mandats transfrontaliers

Yes. Cross-border execution between Western Europe and Central and Eastern Europe is CE Interim’s primary specialism. One partner leads both sides of the mandate under one brief and one quality standard. There is no handoff to a separate local firm and no accountability gap between the HQ decision and the Romanian site.

CE Interim is the Valtus Alliance’s designated partner for Romania, the Balkans and the Baltics, and also covers Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary directly. A mandate that starts in Romania and extends across the region stays with the same partner. Beyond that, the Alliance covers 29 plus countries.

Yes. Romania ranks eleventh worldwide for English proficiency, which makes cross-border deployment materially easier than in most emerging markets. Where Romanian fluency is part of the brief, it is confirmed before presentation. Where the mandate needs an executive who can bridge HQ and local teams, CE Interim matches for cultural fluency in both directions.

Romania and the Romanian market

Interim management in Romania is developing rather than mature. There is no national interim association equivalent to Germany’s or the UK’s, few Romania-specific providers, and no published market-size or day-rate benchmark. Demand is real and growing, driven by foreign ownership, industrial investment and management scarcity, but the category itself is still forming.

Romania combines heavy foreign industrial investment with genuine management scarcity. Around 4.6 million Romanians work abroad and the working-age population is shrinking, so senior replacement depth is thin. When a site director leaves or an acquisition closes, the leadership the situation requires is often not available locally at short notice.

No. Foreign-owned operations most often deploy interim executives for cross-border execution, integration and governance alignment. Romanian-owned businesses, including founder-led and family companies, most often deploy for succession transitions, restructuring and leadership gaps. The trigger is the situation, not the ownership structure.

Yes. Many Romanian founder-led businesses run on the owner’s personal customer relationships and undocumented decision-making, none of which transfers automatically. CE Interim deploys an interim managing director who holds the business through the transition, maintains customer and supplier confidence, and builds the governance structure the successor will actually inherit.

A consultant analyses, advises and produces recommendations. An interim manager takes the line role, holds the authority and delivers the result. In Romania the distinction matters because the category is still forming and the two are sometimes confused. CE Interim deploys executives who execute, not consultants who report.

Executive search fills a permanent role over four to six months. Interim management fills a specific situation within days, and often runs in parallel with a search. When a CFO departs mid-integration or a plant ramp-up has a fixed customer deadline, there is no time to wait for a permanent appointment.
