Who calls us in Spain

Quattro tipi di dirigenti, un problema ricorrente: c’è bisogno di una leadership in tempi più rapidi di quelli che una selezione a tempo indeterminato può garantire.

Investitore nel settore del private equity o partner operativo

Your Spanish portfolio company needs a CFO or COO at investor tempo, not a six-month search.

Foreign parent or investor

You own or are acquiring a Spanish business and need leadership installed quickly, often alongside operations elsewhere in Europe.

Owner or shareholder

The founder is stepping back and no successor is ready. The business runs on relationships that do not transfer automatically.

Direttore finanziario o responsabile delle operazioni

You need one function covered through an ERE, a transition or a market entry, while the permanent hire is found.

Le situazioni per cui le aziende ci contattano

Successione nell'azienda familiare

The founder is stepping back. No successor is ready. The business runs on institutional memory, personal banking relationships and decisions nobody else has been trained to make.

CE Interim deploys an interim managing director who holds the business through the transition, maintains customer and supplier confidence, and builds the governance the next leader will actually inherit.

The handover is controlled, not chaotic. Enterprise value survives the transition.

ERE and workforce restructuring

You need to reduce headcount through a formal collective redundancy process. The ERE runs to a fixed legal timeline, with consultation requirements and financial obligations that must be managed together.

CE Interim deploys an interim CFO or HR Director with direct ERE experience, someone who holds the financial and workforce dimensions at once and keeps the process procedurally clean.

The process runs correctly. The operational core comes through intact.

Improvviso vuoto di leadership

Your CEO or CFO leaves mid-quarter. The permanent search will take four to six months. Lenders, the board and the management team cannot wait that long.

CE Interim deploys an interim executive within days, fully empowered, holding the role and protecting reporting lines and banking relationships while the search runs in parallel.

The seat is filled before the gap becomes visible outside the business.

Foreign-owned subsidiary leadership

A US or UK parent has acquired or established a Spanish entity. It needs local leadership now, and the parent needs operational visibility in weeks, not quarters.

CE Interim deploys an interim country manager or CFO who bridges the local operation and the international HQ, building reporting and stabilising the team from day one.

The subsidiary runs. The parent gets the clarity it needs.

Creazione di valore nel portafoglio di PE

You have a Spanish portfolio company and a value-creation clock. Reporting is unclear, cash management is reactive, and the 100-day window is already running.

CE Interim deploys an interim CFO or COO working at investor tempo, installing reporting cadence, pulling EBITDA levers and preparing the exit story in parallel.

L'investitore acquisisce visibilità. L'azienda acquista slancio.

Expansion into Central Europe

You are opening operations in Poland, Romania or the Czech Republic. The Spanish team cannot be diverted, and the new site has a customer deadline that does not move.

CE Interim deploys an interim operations lead who knows both the Spanish business culture and the CEE market, running the setup as one accountable programme rather than a remote project.

The new market opens on time. The home business is not destabilised.

The Spanish market, right now

Spain is growing faster than the eurozone, at 2.8% in 2025 against a bloc average of 1.5%. But the headline growth masks a divided economy. Industrial production has now fallen for three consecutive months, and the automotive sector is in structural transition rather than cyclical dip: production of combustion passenger cars has halved since 2019, and electric output has not come close to replacing it.

Formal ERE redundancy procedures are running simultaneously across telecoms, technology consulting and the platform economy. These are not slow-moving trends. They arrive on a board agenda with a legal clock already running.

The deeper pressure is generational, and it is not the one most people assume. Spanish family businesses are unusually durable: more than nine in ten Spanish companies are family-owned, they employ over 10.2 million people, and they survive longer than non-family firms. The problem is not the second generation. It is the third. Only 10 to 15% of Spanish family businesses reach it, and barely 1% continue beyond. The businesses that make that crossing are the ones that professionalise their leadership before they have to.

Spain is also drawing record capital. Foreign direct investment reached €36.8 billion in 2024, with the UK and United States the two largest sources. Private equity investment hit an all-time high in 2025, with mid-market deal volume up 37% in a single year. Every acquisition and every new subsidiary creates a leadership gap that a permanent search cannot close in time.

Spanish labour law adds a layer most buyers underestimate. Bringing a manager into a line role without proper contracting structure carries real exposure. It is one reason experienced companies choose a structured interim provider over an informal arrangement.

Transfrontaliero. Interculturale. Un unico partner affidabile.

Most Spanish growth decisions no longer stay inside Spain. A manufacturer opens a plant in Poland. A family group acquires in Romania. A foreign parent buys a Spanish business and runs Central European assets alongside it.

The decision is made in Madrid or Barcelona. The execution is somewhere else. Most interim firms cover one side or the other, which means a handoff, a gap in accountability, and a quality difference between the boardroom and the site.

CE Interim runs both sides through one accountable partner. No handoff. No quality drift between the Madrid decision and the Warsaw plant floor or the Dubai subsidiary.

What makes that possible is not geography. It is the ability to operate in both business cultures at once: to understand what a Spanish board expects and what a Polish operations team needs, and to bridge the two without losing either.

Through the Valtus Alliance and CE Interim’s own presence across CEE, the Balkans, the Baltics and the Middle East, that corridor is covered wherever the mandate goes.

The corridor runs both ways: a Spanish company reaching into Central Europe and the Gulf, or a UK, US or European owner reaching into Spain. One partner owns the whole route.

Quando la leadership ad interim è la soluzione giusta e quando invece non lo è

Spain’s family businesses did not outlast their non-family competitors by making slow decisions. When a succession arrives before anyone is ready, when an ERE demands leadership that can hold the financial and human sides together, or when a subsidiary needs an executive before the parent’s next board meeting, the question is never whether to act. It is who acts, and how fast.

Interim leadership is the right answer when the situation has a defined outcome, a fixed timeline, and a need for someone who has done exactly this before. It is not the right answer when the role needs institutional continuity, relationships built over years, or a permanent presence in the market.

The distinction matters because the mandate structure determines everything. A well-scoped engagement has a defined outcome, a fixed timeline and clear success criteria agreed before day one. When those three are in place, the executive moves at the speed the situation demands. When they are not, even the best executive loses weeks establishing what they are there to deliver.

Not recommended in Spain for line management roles

In Spain, bringing a freelance manager into a line leadership role without proper contracting structure creates real legal exposure. A structured interim engagement does not.

Mandati selezionati

I dati del cliente non vengono resi noti per accordo.

Direttore delle risorse umane ad interim

A Spanish technology services firm initiated a formal ERE following a major contract loss. Internal HR leadership had no experience running the procedural, legal and communication dimensions at once, and the consultation timeline was legally fixed.

CE Interim deployed an interim HR Director with direct ERE experience to manage workforce consultation, coordinate with legal counsel, handle employee communications and maintain procedural compliance throughout the statutory period.

The process completed within the legal timeline with no procedural challenges filed. Management stayed focused on operational continuity. The business emerged with its core workforce intact.

Interim CFO

A second-generation owner accelerated a succession process after a health event. The business had no independent financial reporting, no documented governance, and all banking relationships were held personally by the founder. The third generation was not operationally ready.

CE Interim deployed an interim CFO to build an independent finance function, formalise reporting for the company’s banking partners, and document the governance the successor would inherit, running alongside the permanent search.

Banking relationships held without disruption. The permanent CFO inherited an auditable finance function operating independently, not one held together by a founder’s personal relationships.

Direttore nazionale ad interim

A US industrial group acquired a Spanish manufacturer. The entity had no independent reporting, a management team unfamiliar with US ownership expectations, and a parent requiring operational visibility within 60 days of closing.

CE Interim deployed a bilingual interim Country Director to establish the parent’s reporting framework, stabilise the local team, and manage the shift from founder-led to professionally governed operation.

The parent group had consolidated reporting on schedule. The permanent Country Director stepped into a stable, documented business rather than a transition still in progress.

Direttore operativo ad interim

A Spanish industrial group opened a production facility in Central Europe to serve regional customers. It had no prior CEE operating experience, its Spanish team could not be diverted, and the site had a customer-driven deadline.

CE Interim deployed an interim Operations Director with both Spanish and CEE operational background to lead the setup, manage local supplier relationships, build the production team and establish the processes the permanent team would inherit.

The facility reached operational readiness ahead of the supply agreement deadline. The Spanish business ran without disruption. Permanent management inherited a running site, not a project.

The roles we deploy for Spanish companies

Ordered by mandate frequency in Spain. Every role deployed for a defined outcome, not an open-ended seat.

Direttore finanziario ad interim

Financial control, banking relationships and investor reporting. Deployed during an ERE, a founder transition requiring independent financial governance, or when a new owner needs credible reporting installed fast.

Amministratore delegato ad interim

Full business leadership through succession, vacancy or crisis. Deployed when an owner steps back without a ready successor, or the top seat empties and the business needs a steady decision-maker.

Direttore delle risorse umane ad interim

Workforce leadership through formal restructuring. Deployed for ERE procedures, where consultation, legal compliance and communications must run together inside a fixed statutory timeline.

Direttore operativo ad interim

Operational turnaround and integration leadership on the ground. Deployed when a transformation or post-acquisition integration needs an owner with full authority in the line.

Direttore nazionale ad interim

Full in-country leadership for subsidiaries and market entries. Deployed when a foreign parent needs leadership installed in a Spanish entity, or a Spanish group needs an operator in a new market.

Direttore della catena di approvvigionamento ad interim

Supply chain resilience and cross-border network management. Deployed when Spanish supply decisions have execution consequences abroad and one accountable leader is needed across both ends.

CIO/CTO ad interim

Technology leadership and digital programme ownership. Deployed when an AI implementation or infrastructure modernisation needs an accountable executive running it, not a consultant scoping it.

Direttore ad interim della trasformazione · Responsabile PMI

Programme leadership for operating model change and post-merger integration. Deployed when complex change runs across Spanish and international sites and needs one owner holding both to the same standard.

Industries we serve in Spain

Dirigenti che conoscono già bene il funzionamento del vostro settore.

Family-Owned Business and Private Mid-Market

Spain’s most consistent source of interim demand. More than nine in ten Spanish companies are family-owned, and the ones that cross into the third generation are the ones that professionalise leadership before they are forced to.

Automotive and Industrial Manufacturing

Europe’s second-largest vehicle producer, with 90% of exports going to a slowing European market. Combustion output has halved since 2019 and electric has not replaced it. Companies need leadership that can execute the shift, not just plan it.

PE-Backed Companies

Private equity investment in Spain hit a record in 2025, with mid-market deal volume up 37%. A hundred-day plan is only real once someone is in the building running it.

Food, Beverage and Agri-Food

A core pillar of Spanish industry and a frequent private equity target. Consolidation and professionalisation are moving faster than internal leadership depth.

Settore farmaceutico e delle scienze della vita

Global pharma maintains significant Spanish manufacturing and R&D operations. Quality and compliance leadership gaps are rarely tolerated for long in this environment.

Technology and Digital Services

AI-driven restructuring is already producing formal ERE procedures in Spanish tech. The same sector is short of the leadership needed to run the transformations it has committed to.

In Spain, the mandate rarely stops at the border. CE Interim brings executives who operate across the corridor between Iberian decision-making and Central European, Baltic and Gulf execution, with one partner accountable for both ends of it. That corridor capability is what gets matched to your brief, not just the role title.

Questions we get asked about interim management in Spain

Come funziona CE Interim

CE Interim presents partner-assessed candidates within 72 hours of the first briefing call. In genuine urgency, an executive can be on-site within days. The 72 hours covers briefing, assessment and profile presentation, not a database search. Most mandates start within one to two weeks of first contact.

You speak directly with a CE Interim partner, not a coordinator or intake team. In one conversation we confirm the situation, the outcome required, the timeline and the type of executive needed. Everything discussed is confidential from the start. No formal brief is required beforehand.

The same partner who took the first call stays directly involved throughout. There is no handoff to an account manager. The partner reviews progress, stays close to complications and oversees the final handover to permanent leadership.

Every mandate is scoped with a defined exit from the start. The interim executive prepares a structured handover covering decisions taken, processes documented, relationships transferred and open items. The goal is to leave the business stronger and not dependent on the interim.

Yes. Mandates are structured around the outcome, not a fixed time commitment. If the situation resolves ahead of schedule, the mandate closes with a clean handover. There is no lock-in.

Costi e spot pubblicitari

CE Interim charges a flat daily rate, agreed and confirmed in writing before the mandate begins. The rate reflects role seniority, sector and mandate complexity. Spain has no published national day-rate benchmark comparable to those in Germany or the UK, so any figure quoted publicly should be treated as indicative rather than authoritative.

Because it replaces everything a permanent hire costs on top of salary: recruitment fees, a four to six month search, onboarding time, employer social security contributions, holiday and sick pay, notice period and severance exposure. An interim executive is productive from day one and exits when the outcome is delivered.

A transparent flat daily rate. No hidden placement fees, no percentage of salary, no success bonuses, no ongoing retainer. Terms are agreed in one conversation and confirmed in writing before anyone starts work.

Yes. Confidentiality is the starting point, not something a client has to request. CE Interim operates under mutual NDA from the first conversation. This is why no client names, company details or mandate specifics ever appear in published content.

Quando contattarci

When the situation needs a decision-maker with line authority, not a recommendation on paper. An interim manager holds the role and delivers the result. A consultant advises and reports. For an ERE, a succession gap or a post-acquisition integration, where execution is the gap, interim is the answer.

Yes. Vacancy bridging is one of the most common CE Interim mandate types. A partner-assessed interim CEO or CFO can be on-site within days, holding the role with full authority while the permanent search runs in parallel.

Yes. An ERE is one of the most procedurally demanding situations a Spanish leadership team faces, with a legally fixed consultation timeline and financial obligations running alongside. CE Interim deploys interim CFOs and HR Directors with direct ERE experience who cover the financial, workforce and communication dimensions together rather than one part in isolation.

Yes. Succession is the most consistently evidenced source of interim demand in Spain. CE Interim deploys interim managing directors and CEOs who hold the business through the transition, maintain the relationships the founder built, and prepare the governance the successor will inherit.

Yes. Private equity investment in Spain reached a record level in 2025, with mid-market activity growing fastest. CE Interim deploys interim CFOs and COOs who work at investor tempo: reporting cadence installed in the first week, EBITDA levers identified early, exit readiness built in parallel with operational delivery.

Yes. This is a direct CE Interim specialism. We deploy executives who understand both the Spanish business culture and the CEE operating environment, running the expansion as one coordinated programme rather than a project managed remotely from Madrid.

Yes. CE Interim deploys interim transformation directors and PMI leads who own the integration end to end: reporting consolidation, operating model alignment and the cultural work that determines whether synergies are captured or only modelled.

Ruoli che implementiamo

An interim CFO holds full financial leadership on a temporary basis. Spanish companies most often need one during an ERE, a sudden departure, a family succession requiring independent financial governance, or when a new investor or parent needs credible reporting installed fast. The interim CFO carries line authority from day one.

An interim HR Director holds people leadership on a defined mandate. In Spain the most specific demand is for HR Directors experienced in formal ERE procedures, where consultation, legal compliance, communications and documentation run simultaneously inside a fixed timeline. This is a distinct skill set from general HR leadership.

An interim CEO holds the general management role with full legal and operational authority on a defined mandate. Most commonly deployed for family business succession bridging, crisis stabilisation, or when a top-seat departure cannot wait for a four to six month search.

An interim COO is deployed when the operational side of a situation needs a dedicated, full-authority owner while the CEO continues running the wider business. Post-acquisition integration, a market entry, or a turnaround in a specific business unit are the common scenarios.

Mandati transfrontalieri

Yes. Connecting Spanish decision-making to Central and Eastern European execution is CE Interim’s primary cross-border specialism. One partner leads both sides under one brief and one quality standard. No handoff to a separate local firm, and no accountability gap between headquarters and site.

Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, the Baltic states, the Balkans, the Middle East and beyond through the Valtus Alliance. The same partner who took the brief in Spain manages the execution on the ground.

A local firm knows its own market. CE Interim knows both sides: the Spanish business culture and the CEE operating environment. An executive who understands what a Spanish board expects and what a Polish production team needs can run both without losing either.

Yes. For UK, US or European owners running a Spanish operation alongside Central European or Gulf assets, CE Interim provides one point of contact across the footprint. Through the Valtus Alliance, one brief covers both sides.

Spain and the Spanish market

An ERE, or Expediente de Regulación de Empleo, is Spain’s collective redundancy procedure under Article 51 of the Workers’ Statute. It applies above defined thresholds: 10 employees in companies under 100 staff, 10% of the workforce in companies of 100 to 300, or 30 employees in larger organisations, within a 90-day window. The procedure requires a formal consultation period and carries statutory severance obligations. Most companies facing their first ERE lack the internal experience to run it cleanly.

Because of scale and structure. More than nine in ten Spanish companies are family-owned, employing over 10.2 million people. Spanish family firms actually survive longer than non-family firms, but only 10 to 15% reach the third generation and barely 1% go beyond it. The businesses that make that crossing are the ones that build independent governance and professional management before the handover, not during it.

Most run between six and twelve months, extending to eighteen for complex transformation or succession situations. ERE-related mandates often compress into three to six months within the statutory timeline. Succession and post-acquisition integration mandates sit at the longer end.

Spain’s market is developing rather than mature, which is how Spanish practitioners describe it themselves. A national association, AIME, represents over 250 active professionals. The model is most established in manufacturing, family business and PE-backed companies, and awareness is growing fastest in the sectors under most structural pressure.

Family-owned and private mid-market businesses, automotive and industrial manufacturing, PE-backed companies, food and agri-food, pharma and life sciences, and technology services. In each case the executive is matched on sector operating experience, not just role title.

Interim rispetto alle alternative

A consultant advises, analyses and recommends. An interim manager takes the line role, holds the authority and delivers the result. The distinction matters most during an ERE, a succession gap or an integration, when the business needs someone to run the process, not another report.

Executive search fills a permanent role over four to six months. Interim management fills a situation within days. When an ERE cannot wait, or a founder steps back without a successor, there is no time for a permanent search. CE Interim covers the gap while the search runs.

A freelancer engaged directly into a line leadership role can expose the company to falso autónomo liability if they are integrated into daily operations and subject to company direction, a risk the hiring organisation absorbs, not the individual. A structured interim engagement removes that exposure, adds partner oversight throughout, and delivers an assessed shortlist within 72 hours.
