Who calls us in Switzerland

Four situations, one recurring problem: senior leadership needed faster than a permanent search can deliver.

Owner or shareholder in transition

You are stepping back and no successor is ready. The business runs on your relationships and judgment, and none of that transfers on its own.

Foreign owner of a Swiss entity

Your Swiss subsidiary is under pressure and your group cannot manage it from outside. Swiss creditors and banks do not operate the way yours do.

Investor or operating partner

Your Swiss portfolio company needs a CFO or COO at investor tempo. The value-creation window is already running.

Board member or finance lead

A restructuring has moved past reporting. Creditors need a credible operator in front of them, not another plan on paper.

The situations Swiss companies call us for

Family business succession

The owner is stepping back and no successor is ready. The business runs on the founder’s client relationships, supplier trust and institutional memory. None of it transfers without a controlled handover.

CE Interim deploys an interim managing director who holds the business through the transition, protects client and bank confidence, and builds the governance the successor inherits.

Enterprise value is protected. The handover is controlled, not improvised.

Átszervezés és pénzügyi talpra állás

Margins are under pressure from a strong franc and US export tariffs. Relationship banks want a credible plan and a credible operator standing behind it. One person cannot run both conversations at once

CE Interim deploys an interim CRO or restructuring CFO with direct Swiss lender experience, working inside the out-of-court consensus model Swiss creditors expect.

The business keeps running. Creditors get an operator, not just a document.

Foreign-owned subsidiary in crisis

Your Swiss entity faces a liquidity or governance event your group cannot manage from abroad. Swiss restructuring runs on creditor autonomy, not court process. Foreign legal instincts do not produce the same result here.

CE Interim deploys a locally fluent interim CEO or CRO who manages the bank relationship inside the Swiss framework and communicates in both directions between subsidiary and parent.

The subsidiary is stabilised. The parent keeps control without being in the room.

Hirtelen vezetői szakadék

A CEO or CFO exit lands at the worst moment: mid-refinancing, mid-audit, or during a sensitive shareholder discussion. In a market this closely networked, an empty seat is noticed quickly.

CE Interim deploys an interim executive within days, fully empowered and briefed on the governance context, holding the role while the permanent search runs in parallel.

The seat is covered before the market draws its own conclusions.

Expansion or relocation into Central Europe

You are moving production, standing up a shared service centre, or acquiring assets in Poland, the Czech Republic or Romania. The decision was made in Switzerland. The execution sits in a different legal system and labour market.

CE Interim runs both sides through one partner: Swiss governance and CEE implementation under one brief, with no handoff between firms.

Output is protected. The new operation is stable before the interim team exits.

Az egyesülés utáni integráció

Two businesses have been combined on paper. The integration has not happened. In Switzerland that often means different cantonal registrations, separate banking relationships, and two management cultures that have not yet met.

CE Interim deploys an interim integration lead with experience across Swiss and Central European operating environments, holding both sides under one brief.

Synergies land. The merged entity has working governance before we step out.

The Swiss market, right now

Switzerland is a mature interim market. Senior buyers here already understand the model and most have used it before. What has changed is the weight and the timing of the situations now arriving on board agendas. Succession is the largest of them. Nearly one in three Swiss SMEs faces an ownership transfer within five years, and around 112,000 family businesses are expected to go through a generational change by 2030. Most have no concrete plan in place.

At the same time, export-heavy businesses are absorbing a structural cost shock. US tariffs of 15 percent now apply to Swiss goods, and a persistently strong franc continues to compress margins on international sales. Pharmaceuticals and precision manufacturing carry most of that weight.

Switzerland is also two markets in one. German-speaking Switzerland and French-speaking Switzerland operate in different business languages, use different terminology for the same service, and are served by different providers. A mandate in Geneva is not a mandate in Zurich with a translation layer.

For foreign-owned Swiss entities there is a further layer. Swiss restructuring runs on creditor autonomy and bank-led consensus, not the court-driven mechanisms of Germany or France. A group crisis handled with foreign legal instincts stalls at the first creditor meeting.

Határokon átnyúló. Kultúrákon átívelő. Egyetlen, megbízható partner.

Most Swiss transformation decisions no longer stay inside Switzerland. An industrial group moves production into Poland. A PE-backed business acquires assets in Romania. A pharmaceutical manufacturer reconfigures distribution across three CEE markets at once.

The decision is Swiss. The execution is somewhere else. Most interim firms handle one side or the other, which means a handoff, a gap in accountability, and a quality difference between the boardroom and the site.

CE Interim runs both sides through one accountable partner. No handoff. No quality drift between the Zurich decision and the Warsaw plant floor.

What makes that possible is not geography. It is the ability to operate fluently in both business cultures at once: to understand what a Swiss board and its relationship banks expect, and what a Polish operations team needs to deliver.

Swiss expectations are specific. Discretion, consensus, and a bank relationship treated as a partnership rather than a transaction. Those norms do not travel automatically into Central Europe. Bridging them is the work.

CE Interim’s Valtus Alliance partner in Switzerland, Roland Kleeb of FS Partners AG in Zurich, brings direct Swiss restructuring expertise into any mandate that needs it. Across the Alliance network, the corridor is covered wherever it leads.

The corridor runs both ways: a Swiss HQ reaching into Central Europe, or a foreign-owned Swiss entity needing local leadership on the ground. One partner owns the whole route.

Mikor jelenthet megoldást az ideiglenes vezetés, és mikor nem

Swiss buyers rarely ask what interim management is. They ask whether this particular situation warrants it, and whether the provider can handle the Swiss dimension of it.

Interim leadership is the right answer when the situation has a defined outcome, a fixed timeline, and needs someone who has run exactly this before. It is not the right answer when the role requires long-term relationship continuity or a permanent market presence.

In Switzerland there is one further test. Swiss restructuring runs on consensus and creditor autonomy, not statutory process. An executive without direct Swiss lender experience spends the first weeks learning the local rules, and that time is not available once creditors are at the table. CE Interim confirms that fluency before presenting any candidate.

Rarely, and not for line leadership in a restructuring

In Switzerland, a restructuring that ignores creditor autonomy and relationship bank dynamics will not land the same way as one that respects them. And where 250 or more employees are involved, a social plan that cannot be agreed is settled by compulsory arbitration, not by the company. The executive needs to know that before day one.

Kiválasztott megbízások

Az ügyfél adatait megállapodás alapján nem hozzuk nyilvánosságra.

Interim CRO

A Swiss financial services group faced a credit loss event tied to a distressed European property exposure. Senior leadership was running the operating business and trying to contain the credit situation at the same time. Relationship banks wanted a credible restructuring lead, not another internal update.

CE Interim deployed an Interim Chief Restructuring Officer with direct Swiss lender-management experience. The CRO took the bank relationship from day one and ran the creditor consensus process within the Swiss out-of-court model.

Bank relationships stabilised within 60 days. A consensual restructuring plan was accepted by the primary creditor group without formal moratorium proceedings. The operating business continued without leadership distraction.

Ideiglenes ügyvezető igazgató

The founding owner of a mid-sized Swiss precision manufacturer retired with no internal successor. The business ran on relationships he had built over 25 years. A sale process was underway, but the buyer required 12 months of demonstrated independent management before closing.

CE Interim deployed an Interim Managing Director with full operational authority from the founder’s final day, covering business leadership, client and supplier continuity, and the governance documentation the acquirer needed for due diligence.

The sale completed on schedule. The buyer inherited documented processes, stable client relationships and a management team that had operated independently for the full required period. No key clients were lost.

Interim CFO

A Central European manufacturing group with its financial governance centre in Switzerland lost its CFO during an active refinancing. The Swiss entity held the group’s primary banking relationships and covenant obligations. A lender review was due within six weeks.

CE Interim deployed an Interim CFO within days, matched for Swiss banking relationship experience and multi-entity CEE group structures. The interim CFO took over the lender relationship and led the covenant renegotiation already in preparation.

The lender review completed without covenant breach. Refinancing was confirmed on revised terms. The permanent CFO inherited a stable, fully documented banking relationship and reporting structure.

Interim Operations Director

A Swiss pharmaceutical company restructured its Central European distribution in response to changed export economics. The programme required simultaneous management of Swiss supply planning decisions and operational change across two CEE countries. Internal leadership was committed to core production.

CE Interim deployed an Interim Operations Director running both sides under one brief, with weekly partner oversight. Local management in each CEE country was retained, and the interim provided the cross-border coordination and decision authority that was missing.

The restructured distribution model went live within the programme timeline. Supply continuity to key markets was maintained throughout. The new operating model was documented and embedded in both the Swiss and CEE structures.

The roles we deploy for Swiss companies

Ordered by mandate frequency in Switzerland. Every role deployed for a defined outcome, not an open-ended seat.

Ideiglenes pénzügyi igazgató

Financial control, bank relationship management and investor reporting. Deployed during refinancing, after a CFO departure, or when a new investor needs credible reporting installed quickly.

Ideiglenes vezérigazgató

Full business leadership through succession, vacancy or sensitive transition. In Switzerland this most often means bridging a family business between a departing owner and a successor who is not yet ready.

Ideiglenes szerkezetátalakítási vezető

Creditor negotiation and Swiss lender management. Deployed when the situation moves past reporting into active bank engagement and needs an executive who already knows the out-of-court consensus model.

Ideiglenes operatív igazgató

Operational leadership through transformation, integration or cross-border delivery. Deployed when Swiss operations must stay stable while a programme runs simultaneously in Central Europe.

Ideiglenes üzemvezető · Telephelyvezető

Factory leadership, production stability and site execution. Deployed when a Swiss site needs stabilising, a CEE site needs ramping up, or both need running at once during a relocation.

Ideiglenes ellátási lánc igazgató

Swiss supply chain governance and cross-border network management. Deployed when Swiss supply decisions have execution consequences across the CEE network and one leader is needed on both ends.

Ideiglenes személyzeti igazgató

People leadership through restructuring and workforce change. Deployed when a Swiss collective dismissal triggers social plan negotiation, where failure to agree hands the terms to compulsory arbitration.

Ideiglenes átalakítási igazgató · PMI-vezető

Programme leadership for operating model change and post-merger integration. Deployed when a complex change spans Swiss headquarters and Central European operations and needs one accountable owner.

Industries we serve in Switzerland

Executives who already know how your sector runs.

Pharma and Life Sciences

Switzerland’s most economically significant sector at 5.8 percent of GDP. Tariffs and franc strength are forcing supply chain and operating model decisions faster than internal leadership can absorb them.

Financial Services and Private Banking

Swiss banks and insurers are in active restructuring. Credit events, post-merger integration and regulatory change generate demand in a sector that expects absolute discretion and board-level gravitas.

Precision Manufacturing and MEM

Export margin pressure and a succession wave hitting at once. Two-thirds of Swiss mechanical and electrical firms expect an ownership change within a decade.

PE-Backed Mid-Market

Swiss buyout firms increasingly acquire through succession situations. Portfolio companies arrive without institutional management depth and a value-creation clock already running.

Logisztika és ellátási lánc

Swiss-headquartered logistics groups are restructuring at scale. Running a cost programme while protecting service delivery needs executives who have done exactly that before.

A megbízás teljes körű dokumentációval, tudásátadással és zökkenőmentes átadással zárul, amelynek eredményeként vállalkozása erősebbé válik.

In Switzerland, CE Interim brings executives who have managed Swiss bank relationships under restructuring pressure, held family businesses through ownership transitions, and run mandates crossing from a Swiss headquarters into Central European operations. That operational knowledge is what gets matched to your brief, not just the role title.

Minden megbízás az első telefonhívástól a végső átadásig végig a partner irányítása alatt áll. És ez a felelősségvállalás nem korlátozódik egyetlen régióra sem.

Questions we get asked about interim management in Switzerland

Hogyan működik a CE Interim?

Partner-assessed candidates within 72 hours of the first briefing call. What matters is what fills that window: a partner briefing, candidate assessment against the specific Swiss context, and for restructuring mandates, confirmation that the executive has managed Swiss lender relationships before. Not a database export. In genuinely urgent situations an executive can be on-site within days.

You speak directly with a CE Interim partner, not a coordinator. In one conversation we confirm the situation, the outcome required, the timeline and the type of executive needed. Everything is confidential from the start. No formal brief is required beforehand.

The same partner who took the first call stays involved throughout. There is no handoff to a junior account manager. The partner oversees progress, stays close to complications, and manages the handover to permanent leadership.

Every mandate is scoped with a defined exit from the start. The executive prepares a structured handover covering decisions taken, processes documented, relationships transferred and open items identified. Clean exit is part of the scope, not an afterthought.

Yes. Mandates are structured around the outcome, not a fixed time commitment. If the situation resolves ahead of schedule, the mandate closes early with a clean handover. There is no lock-in.

Költségek és reklámok

Switzerland carries the highest average interim day rates in the DACH region. The AIMP Marktstudie recorded an average of €1,712 in 2024, against €1,338 in Germany and €1,282 in Austria. CRO and CEO mandates in restructuring situations typically sit above that average.

The rate covers what a permanent hire does not: no recruitment cost, no notice period delay, no onboarding time, no severance exposure, no employer social contributions. An interim executive is productive from day one and exits cleanly when the mandate ends.

A transparent flat daily rate agreed before the mandate begins. No hidden placement fees, no percentage of salary, no success bonuses, no retainer. Commercial terms are confirmed in writing before anyone starts work.

Yes, from the first conversation. No client names or mandate specifics ever appear in published content. In Switzerland’s closely networked business community, particularly in financial services and pharma, discretion is applied with additional care.

Mikor érdemes felhívni minket

When the situation has moved from reporting and cash management into active creditor engagement. A CFO manages the business financially. A CRO manages the recovery, works the bank relationship directly, and operates within the Swiss out-of-court consensus model.

Waiting is the most common mistake here, because the window for an out-of-court solution closes faster than most management teams expect. Watch for a covenant approaching its limit, a key departure during a sensitive period, or a succession that has not been formalised despite a stated timeline.

Nearly one in three Swiss SMEs faces an ownership transfer within five years, and most have not completed formal preparation. An interim managing director bridges the gap between the owner’s exit and a successor being operationally ready, protecting relationships and building the governance the next owner inherits.

Swiss restructuring runs on creditor autonomy and bank-led consensus, not the court-centred processes of Germany or France. An executive with local experience manages the bank relationship inside that framework and communicates in both directions between subsidiary and parent.

A company usually employing 250 or more people that intends to make at least 30 redundant within 30 days must negotiate a social plan. If negotiations fail, an arbitration court decides its contents and the company loses control of the terms. CE Interim deploys interim CHROs alongside the operational lead so that negotiation is run properly rather than absorbed into a stretched management team.

Yes. Swiss PMI carries specific complexity: cantonal registration differences, separate entity-level banking relationships, and distinct management cultures. CE Interim deploys integration leads with experience inside Swiss corporate structures, not generic PMI templates.

Yes. We run both sides under one partner, Swiss governance and CEE implementation simultaneously. Swissness rules also constrain what can move: an industrial product loses “Swiss Made” status if under 60 percent of manufacturing costs stay in Switzerland, or if the essential manufacturing step relocates. The executive deployed understands that before the programme begins.

Yes. Swiss buyout firms increasingly acquire through succession situations, which means portfolio companies often arrive without institutional management depth. CE Interim deploys interim CFOs and COOs who install reporting cadence early, identify the operational levers, and build exit readiness alongside delivery.

Az általunk bevezetett szerepkörök

Full financial leadership: cash management, lender reporting, covenant compliance and communication to board and shareholders. In Switzerland the CFO is often the primary bank contact before a formal CRO mandate is scoped, providing the credibility banks need to stay constructively engaged.

An Interim CEO holds full business leadership. A CRO holds a specific mandate to lead the financial recovery and creditor relationship, with a board-level brief that keeps them independent of operational management. In Switzerland the CRO mandate typically comes from the board and runs alongside, not above, the CEO.

Language fluency is confirmed in every Swiss mandate brief. German-speaking Switzerland and French-speaking Switzerland operate differently. In Geneva and Lausanne the native term is management de transition, not a translation of interim management. We match to the language context of the specific mandate.

C-level and senior functional leadership only. Every executive has held the role in a real company of comparable size and complexity. At Swiss day rates, the executive arriving on-site is expected to be productive from day one.

Határokon átnyúló megbízások

Few do it credibly through one accountable partner rather than a handoff between separate firms. CE Interim covers Switzerland and the CEE region — Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, the Balkans and the Baltics — under one relationship.

Yes. The same partner, the same quality standard, the same NDA framework, whether the mandate is in Zurich or Warsaw.

We deploy operations directors, plant managers and supply chain directors who run Swiss-to-CEE programmes under one brief, without the accountability gap that comes from coordinating two firms across a border.

The Swiss consensus-led, bank-centred culture differs materially from most CEE markets, where regulatory frameworks, labour law and stakeholder expectations vary country by country. We confirm cross-cultural fluency, not just language, before presenting any candidate.

Through the Valtus Alliance, CE Interim gives clients access to executive interim leadership across 29+ countries. If your mandate reaches into the Middle East, the Americas or Asia, the Alliance covers it through the same relationship. One call, one partner, one standard.

Switzerland and the Swiss market

Switzerland operates under the SchKG, which deliberately limits judicial intervention. There is no statutory cram-down equivalent to Germany’s StaRUG or the EU Restructuring Directive. Restructuring is primarily out-of-court, bank-led and consensus-driven, so the quality of the bank relationship matters more than the formal legal structure.

Because there is no state restructuring architecture and no majority voting mechanism to force a settlement. Financing banks become the practical coordinators of the process. Subordination agreements, bridge financing and standstill arrangements often replace formal moratoriums, which makes early and transparent bank communication decisive.

Since 1 January 2025, Swiss companies can be subject to debt enforcement proceedings for public law claims including tax claims. The Act also tightened conflict-of-interest disclosure and strengthened obligations on management bodies to act once capital loss or over-indebtedness is identified.

The model is identical. The language, terminology and competitive field are not. German-speaking Switzerland uses Interimsmanagement. Geneva, Lausanne and Neuchâtel use management de transition, a native term rather than a translation. CE Interim operates in both.

Approximately €400 million in 2024 according to the AIMP Marktstudie, with more recent data indicating continued growth. Switzerland is the smallest DACH market by volume but carries the highest day rates, reflecting mandate complexity and executive seniority.

Parliament adopted an Investment Screening Act in December 2025, expected to apply from 2027 at the earliest. It is narrow in scope, covering only state-controlled foreign investors in security-critical sectors, so most commercial acquisitions of Swiss companies will remain outside it.

Az ideiglenes megoldás és az alternatívák összehasonlítása

A consultant advises, analyses and recommends. An interim manager takes the line role, holds the authority and delivers the result. In Swiss restructuring and succession situations, where execution is the gap rather than analysis, that distinction decides the outcome.

Because a creditor in a Swiss out-of-court restructuring needs a credible operator in front of them, not a firm presenting a deck. Swiss banks act as restructuring partners and stay engaged when the person leading the recovery carries operational accountability.

Executive search fills a permanent role over four to six months. Interim management fills a situation within days. When a CFO leaves mid-refinancing or an owner steps back without a successor, there is no time for a permanent search. CE Interim covers the gap while the search runs.

An internal promotion into a crisis or succession puts institutional loyalty in direct tension with the decisions the situation requires. An interim executive has no stake in internal politics and no future career to protect inside the business. In Switzerland’s closely networked communities, that independence is often the deciding factor.
