Who calls us in the Netherlands

Foreign owner or group

You own a Dutch entity, or you are acquiring one, and the local seat needs filling now while your board sits elsewhere.

Inwestor private equity lub partner operacyjny

Your Dutch portfolio company needs a CFO or COO at investor tempo. The plan is running; the leadership capacity is not there.

Owner or shareholder

The successor is not ready or not yet found, and the business runs on relationships that do not transfer on their own.

Dyrektor finansowy lub kierownik ds. operacyjnych

You need a function covered while the permanent hire is found, and the engagement structured to hold under Dutch rules.

The situations Dutch and international companies call us for

Leadership for a Dutch entity owned from abroad

Your Dutch subsidiary or acquired entity needs a leader now. The group sits elsewhere and cannot keep flying people in to hold it together.

CE Interim deploys an interim managing director who runs the Dutch operation properly and reports upward in a form the group can rely on.

The entity keeps operating. The group gets a seat it can trust.

PE portfolio acceleration

You bought a Dutch mid-market business. Reporting is thin, cash management is reactive, and the founder-era structures do not carry the plan you underwrote.

CE Interim deploys an interim CFO or COO who installs the reporting cadence, pulls the margin levers and professionalises the function.

The investor gets visibility. The team gets structure it keeps.

Bedrijfsopvolging: family business succession

The owner is stepping back and the successor is not ready. Customer relationships, supplier terms and pricing authority all sit with one person.

CE Interim deploys an interim managing director who holds the business through the transition and transfers relationship ownership properly.

Enterprise value holds. The successor inherits a business, not a gap.

Moving or reshaping production capacity

You are moving a line to Central Europe, consolidating Benelux sites, or bringing capacity back. Customers hold supply agreements that do not bend.

CE Interim deploys an interim plant manager and supply chain director who run both ends as one programme under one accountable lead.

Customers are supplied throughout. The receiving site is stable before we leave.

Cross-border PMI and carve-out

The deal has closed and the Dutch entity is now part of something bigger, or being separated out of it. The first hundred days are already running.

CE Interim deploys an interim CFO, COO or integration director who takes operating authority for the integration itself, not just the plan behind it.

Synergies get captured. Governance stabilises before the window closes.

A senior seat empties and the usual fix is gone

Your CFO resigns. You would once have bridged it with a zzp interim manager on a direct contract. Since enforcement resumed in January 2025, many Dutch companies will not.

CE Interim deploys a partner-assessed executive on a mandate with defined scope, agreed outcomes and a fixed end point.

The seat is filled fast. The structure behind it is defensible.

The Dutch market, right now

The Netherlands runs one of the most internationally owned economies in the world. Inward direct investment stood at 4,946 billion euro at the end of 2024, around 436 percent of GDP, and foreign-owned companies employ close to one in five people in the Dutch business economy.

That ownership pattern changes what interim leadership is for. Many Dutch leadership gaps are not local hiring problems. They belong to a board somewhere else, and they land on an entity that has to keep operating while they are solved.

Private equity and family ownership sit underneath. Dutch buyout investors put 5.8 billion euro into 111 companies in 2024, mostly in the mid-market, where professionalisation comes before scale. Just under 300,000 family businesses provide more than 31 percent of Dutch employment, and succession pressure across that base is constant.

The constraint side is where the Netherlands differs from its neighbours. Labour has eased from its peak but stays tight. Grid congestion, permitting delays and energy costs hold back industrial investment even where demand is strong. And since enforcement of the Wet DBA resumed in January 2025, with fines possible from 2026, many companies stopped engaging self-employed managers directly. Structured interim mandates became the safer route, not the expensive one.

Transgraniczne. Międzykulturowe. Jeden partner, na którym można polegać.

In the Netherlands, the people making a decision and the people executing it are often in different countries.

Ownership arrives from abroad. A US group governs a Dutch subsidiary. A German owner acquires a Dutch manufacturer. The board sits elsewhere, and someone has to run the business here while reporting there.

Operations reach outward. A Dutch manufacturer moves a line to Poland. A Rotterdam group builds distribution across Central Europe. The decision is Dutch, and the execution is not.

Both are the same problem: distance between the decision and the work.

Most providers solve half of it. Dutch boutiques know this market and stop at the border. International recruiters cross borders but pass the mandate down a chain until the person who took your call is no longer on it.

CE Interim covers both directions through one partner who stays on the mandate. What makes that work is not the number of offices. It is the ability to read two business cultures at once and translate between what a foreign board expects and what a Dutch operation actually needs.

The corridor runs both ways. A foreign owner reaching into a Dutch operation, or a Dutch business reaching out into Central Europe and beyond. One partner owns the whole route.

Dutch companies are comfortable with temporary senior leadership. The market has had a formal industry body since 1986, and appointments at directie and bestuur level are ordinary rather than exceptional. The question is rarely whether to use interim leadership. It is whether this situation is the right one for it.

Interim leadership fits when the outcome is defined, the timeline is fixed, and the person taking the seat has handled the same situation before. It does not fit when the role needs long-term relationship ownership or permanent market presence.

The structure of the mandate decides most of the outcome. A defined result, a clear end point and agreed success criteria let an interim executive move at the speed the situation demands. In the Netherlands that structure now carries a second benefit: it is also the structure that holds up under current contracting rules. Doing it properly and doing it compliantly turn out to be the same thing.

Interim Managing Director

A European group acquired a Dutch manufacturer and the founding managing director left weeks after completion. The group had no local bench and a customer base that had dealt with the founder personally for years.

CE Interim deployed an interim managing director with Dutch manufacturing and post-acquisition experience for nine months, covering commercial continuity, reporting alignment and preparation of a permanent structure.

No material customer loss during the transition. The group received consolidated Dutch reporting from month two, and the permanent MD joined a documented business.

Interim CFO

A Dutch services business was acquired in a sub-25 million equity buyout. Finance ran on founder-era processes, reporting arrived late, and the investor had no reliable view of cash or margin by service line.

CE Interim deployed an interim CFO at investor tempo, covering a rebuilt reporting cadence, margin analysis by service line, working capital discipline and preparation for a permanent hire.

Reporting moved to a fixed cadence within the first quarter. The investor gained margin visibility by service line, and the permanent CFO inherited a working function.

Interim Plant Manager and Supply Chain Director

A Dutch food processing group moved a packing and processing line to Central Europe. Retail customers held supply agreements with fixed service levels and no tolerance for disruption.

CE Interim ran the Dutch wind-down and the Central European ramp-up as one programme under a single brief, covering equipment transfer, workforce transition, supplier requalification and food safety approvals.

The transfer completed within the mandate window. Retail service levels held throughout, and the receiving site reached target output before permanent management took over.

Interim Managing Director

A second-generation owner decided to step back. The third generation was in the business but not ready to lead it. Supplier terms, pricing authority and major accounts sat with the owner personally.

CE Interim deployed an interim managing director for a twelve-month bridge covering commercial continuity, transfer of relationship ownership, introduction of a management layer and successor preparation.

Supplier terms and major accounts transferred without renegotiation. The successor took over a business with a management team and a governance structure in place.

The roles we deploy in the Netherlands

Ordered by mandate frequency in the Dutch market. Every role deployed for a defined outcome, not an open-ended seat.

Tymczasowy dyrektor finansowy

Financial control, reporting quality and group alignment. Deployed after a change of ownership, during a finance transformation, or when reporting is not good enough for a new investor.

Tymczasowy dyrektor generalny

Whole-business leadership through vacancy, transition or succession. Deployed when the top seat empties or a family business needs a bridge between generations.

Interim Managing Director

Full leadership of a Dutch entity, most often one owned from abroad. Deployed when a subsidiary loses its leader or an acquisition needs local leadership immediately.

Tymczasowy dyrektor operacyjny

Operational turnaround and integration leadership. Deployed when operations need authority inside the line rather than a coordinator above it.

Tymczasowy kierownik zakładu · Dyrektor zakładu

Site leadership, production stability and transfer execution. Deployed when a Dutch site needs stabilising or production is moving to or from the Netherlands.

Tymczasowy dyrektor ds. łańcucha dostaw

Network design, service recovery and cross-border logistics. Deployed when a Dutch supply network needs restructuring or runs into Central Europe and needs one owner across both ends.

Tymczasowy dyrektor ds. zasobów ludzkich

People leadership through restructuring and integration. Deployed when organisational change needs senior HR ownership, particularly where ondernemingsraad consultation is involved.

Tymczasowy dyrektor ds. transformacji · Kierownik ds. PMI

Programme ownership for integration, carve-out and operating model change. Deployed when integration needs operating authority rather than advisory support.

Industries we serve in the Netherlands

Executives who already know how your sector runs here.

Logistics and Distribution

The Netherlands is Europe’s distribution point. The pressure sits on network design, service recovery and cross-border reconfiguration rather than volume growth.

High Tech and Semiconductors

Brainport and the wider high-tech base scale fast and hit leadership capacity limits faster. Growth here is constrained by people and infrastructure, not demand.

Środki chemiczne i procesy

The Rotterdam and Moerdijk clusters face energy, emissions and permitting pressure that has changed the economics of sites which worked fine a decade ago.

Energy and Grid Infrastructure

Grid operators are running capital programmes past 200 billion euro against a connection queue that keeps growing. Delivery capacity is the binding constraint.

Agrifood and Food Processing

A world-leading export sector built heavily on family ownership, which puts succession, professionalisation and capacity consolidation on the agenda at once.

Life Sciences and Medtech

Regulatory and quality expectations keep rising, and a compliance or quality leadership gap is rarely something a Dutch site can carry for long.

CE Interim presents partner-assessed candidates within 72 hours of the first briefing call. In urgent situations an executive can be in place within days. The 72 hours covers briefing, assessment and profile presentation, not a database search. Most Dutch mandates start within one to two weeks of first contact.

Koszty i reklamy

Dutch interim rates are quoted hourly rather than daily. Industry data from the Raad voor Interim Management puts the average bureau rate at 157 euro per hour in 2025, with a range from around 110 to 275 euro depending on role, seniority and mandate complexity. Executive-level mandates sit in the upper part of that range.

Dutch industry data puts the average bureau-placed assignment at just under twelve months. Vacancy bridging and restructuring mandates often run three to six months. Succession, integration and transformation mandates commonly run nine to twelve months or longer.

Kiedy należy się z nami skontaktować

When the situation needs a decision-maker inside the line rather than a recommendation on paper. An interim executive holds the authority and owns the result. A consultant advises and reports. For vacancy bridging, integration, site transfer and turnaround, interim is the answer because execution is the gap

Yes. This is one of CE Interim’s most common Dutch mandate types. We deploy interim managing directors and country leads who run the Dutch entity properly on the ground and report upward in a form the group can rely on. Nearly one in five people in the Dutch business economy works for a foreign-owned company.

Yes. Dutch buyout investors put 5.8 billion euro into 111 companies in 2024, most of it in the mid-market. CE Interim deploys interim CFOs and COOs at investor tempo, installing reporting cadence early, identifying cash and margin levers and building the function the permanent hire will take over.

Yes. Just under 300,000 family businesses operate in the Netherlands, providing more than 31 percent of Dutch employment. CE Interim deploys interim managing directors who hold the business through the transition, transfer relationship ownership properly and build the governance structure the successor inherits.

Yes. CE Interim deploys interim CFOs, CROs and COOs for operational and financial turnaround, including situations running under the WHOA framework. These executives take line authority from day one, stabilise cash and operations, and give lenders and shareholders a credible operator behind the plan.

Yes. Dutch integration work is well advised and thinly executed. CE Interim deploys interim CFOs, COOs and integration directors who take operating authority for the integration itself, covering systems, reporting, entity separation and synergy capture during the first hundred days and beyond.

Yes. Dutch grid operators have investment plans running past 200 billion euro and connection demand continues to outpace delivery. CE Interim deploys interim programme and operations directors who own the constraint, engage grid operators and authorities directly, and resequence the programme around confirmed dependencies.

Wdrażane przez nas role

An interim CFO holds full financial leadership temporarily. Dutch companies most often need one after a change of ownership, during a finance or ERP transformation, when reporting quality is not adequate for a new investor, or when a CFO departs during a critical period. The interim CFO carries line authority, not an advisory brief.

An interim managing director holds full leadership of a Dutch entity, most often one owned from abroad. They are deployed when a subsidiary loses its leader, when an acquisition needs local leadership immediately, or when a group needs someone who can run the Dutch business and report upward credibly.

Yes. Interim plant managers are deployed to stabilise underperforming Dutch sites, to lead production transfers into or out of the Netherlands, and to ramp receiving sites to target output. Where a works council process is part of the mandate, we confirm that experience before presenting any candidate.

When a distribution or supply network needs redesigning, when service levels are failing, or when a supply chain runs from the Netherlands into Central Europe and needs one accountable leader across both ends. The Netherlands is a distribution hub, which makes this one of the most frequently requested functional roles here.

Zlecenia transgraniczne

Yes. Inbound mandates are a CE Interim specialism. A foreign owner, investor or group briefs one CE Interim partner, and that partner leads the Dutch execution under the same relationship. There is no handoff to a separate local firm and no gap between the group’s expectations and what happens on the ground.

Yes. CE Interim covers Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, the Baltics and the Balkans directly, alongside the Middle East and the Americas. For a Dutch business moving production, acquiring assets or governing subsidiaries across the region, the partner who took the brief manages the execution.

Both, depending on the mandate. English works at board and group level in almost every Dutch business, and around 90 percent of the population speaks it fluently. Dutch matters at site level, in works council processes and with local suppliers. We match the language capability the mandate actually requires.

Through the Valtus Alliance, CE Interim gives clients access to executive interim leadership across 29 countries on five continents. If a mandate reaches into Asia, the Americas or the Middle East, the Alliance covers it through the same CE Interim relationship. One call, one partner, one standard.

The dutch market and the alternatives

Yes. The Netherlands has had a formal industry body since 1986, publishes recurring market research on rates and assignment length, and has specialist providers across executive, functional and sector niches. Temporary leadership at directie and bestuur level is ordinary in Dutch business rather than exceptional.

Executive search fills a permanent role over four to six months. Interim management fills a specific situation within days. When a CFO leaves during an integration, a site transfer has a customer deadline, or an owner steps back without a successor, the search timeline does not fit. Interim covers the gap while the search runs.

A direct engagement leaves the client carrying the contracting risk under current enforcement, with no provider oversight and no structured mandate behind it. CE Interim provides a properly scoped engagement, a partner who stays on the mandate throughout, a pre-assessed shortlist within 72 hours and a secondment route where the client needs one.

It suits the mid-market particularly well. Most Dutch buyouts sit in the sub-25 million equity band, and just under 300,000 family businesses operate here. These companies face the same leadership gaps, succession pressure and transformation demands as large groups, without the permanent management depth to absorb them.

Dutch contracting and compliance

The Belastingdienst resumed enforcement against false self-employment on 1 January 2025 and fines became possible from 2026. Engagements are assessed on authority relationship, embedding in the organisation and entrepreneurial risk. Directly engaging a self-employed manager into an embedded line role carries correction and fine exposure for the client.

Every mandate is scoped with a defined outcome, a clear start and end point, agreed success criteria and partner oversight throughout. That structure evidences a genuine assignment rather than disguised employment. Where a client will not engage a self-employed manager at all, CE Interim can deploy on a secondment basis instead.

The VBAR bill was submitted to parliament in 2025 to clarify how working relationships are assessed. The 2026 coalition agreement then decided to replace part of it with a Zelfstandigenwet introducing separate tests for self-employment and working relationships. Neither is in force yet. Current enforcement continues under existing case law.

Yes. Where a client’s own policy or risk position rules out engaging a self-employed manager, CE Interim can structure the deployment as a secondment. The executive and the mandate stay the same. Only the contracting route changes.
